Charting lessons from those pesky Brewers

Seven consecutive two-out hits, eight runs, no homers...

My late father-in-law called the Milwaukee baseball team, those "pesky Brewers." (Yes he was a Cubs fan)

Even if you aren't into baseball, there are lessons from the 2026 World Series that can help you with your charting.

A turning point came in Game 3, when the Brewers compiled seven consecutive two-out hits, eight runs, yet no home runs...

It was IMPRESSIVE! (Subsequently the Brewers won the game 10-1 and the series a couple days later)

Similarly in medicine, doing the little things, getting a single, double, walks, those small things add up to make a big difference.

Whether it is charting in the room, going room to room, or batching your paperwork, these little things can add up over time, turning that two-out situation (or two overbooked patients for your afternoon), into an opportunity for you to thrive.

If you are wondering how you can get your charting done faster and are looking for a complete system to help you get there, check out the Charting Mastery Guide.

It's designed to help you leave that work at work, that same work that I brought home regularly my first eight months of residency, that led me to burnout.

But rather than letting that be the final word, I worked on my skills, developed my system, and now have a much more sustainable rhythm with my charting and clinical workflows.

If this resonates with your situation, I would encourage you to check it out today HERE.

I hope you are having a great day and can't wait to hear how it changes the game (pun intended) for you.

You matter because you're human. Not because of how many patients you saw today. Not because of what you produced. That's worth remembering on the hard days — and I think it's easy to forget when the schedule's packed and the charts are piling up. Part of why I built The Charting Mastery Guide wasn't just to help you finish charting faster. It was to hand back a little of the time and headspace that gets eaten by a system that doesn't always remember your worth the way it should. Instant...

I've been quieter in your inbox the last couple months — busier clinical season, kids back in school, the usual fall chaos. Didn't want that silence to feel like I disappeared. I'm still here, still posting, still thinking about how to make charting and medicine more sustainable for physicians. If you've been following along on YouTube or TikTok, you've probably seen some of the reflections I've been sharing lately — on burnout, on AI scribes, on what we actually owe our teams and ourselves....

Replacing one physician who leaves from burnout costs an organization real money — for many organizations, $500K or more once you factor in recruitment, lost productivity, and the loss of institutional knowledge and mentoring capacity. That figure comes from Shanafelt, Goh, and Sinsky's 2017 paper, "The Business Case for Investing in Physician Well-being." Nobody puts that number on a poster in the break room. But it's real, and it's part of why I think physician well-being isn't a...
